All about the birds…OK how about us,we are Ralph and Brandy of Divide,Colorado. We are first and foremost a Christian couple who gives all the glory to God for allowing us to take this adventure in life to enjoy His creation and all the birds that He has made.We have always loved birds and over the years we have unbeknownst to us been preparing for this part of life that we have come to call Tactical Birding. How did we come up with that name…well let me tell you.
A few weeks back Ralph was out birding one day and ended up stuck in the mud on the side of Antero Reservoir, his boots sucked down and him unable to move. That would of been fine normally but as you see Ralph was in an arm sling from shoulder surgery a 6 weeks or so prior. He now had 2 feet stuck in the mud and was one arm down,he fell forward then onto his backside while trying to free himself and keeping his arm stable. He ended up having to army crawl out to sturdy ground as best as he could with limited use of that arm,mud filling his sling and inching forward with one arm kinda like the army men figurines in Toy Story as they were scouting out the birthday party, that’s how I saw it as he was telling me about this but he says I felt like Rambo. When we were at Church the next day he was talking about it and we were joking about no more Tactical Birding ,ya see he was days away from being sling free and after the months that led up to this point and all the crazy things that had happened to him from getting injured at work, a near drowning experience from a kayak accident at Pueblo Reservoir in which his arm that was injured made the day go from bad to worse, a hospital stay from that that cancelled the surgery for weeks while he recovered then finally healing enough to get surgery to only end up getting blood clots which one made it to his lung and a pulmonary effusion, a friend said Tactical Birding no you have got to stop no more you have been through enough.Birding is not supposed to be tactical, but it was that day and once we said the name out loud I thought that was the name and Tactical Birding started right then and there.
