Beautiful day to go Birding

March 1 first day of meteorological spring and here in Colorado it sure felt like it! Was in the 50’s up in the mountains and in the mid 60’s in the Springs. So thought we would take advantage of it especially since come Monday afternoon thru most of the week we will revert right back to winter as a few snow storms are heading our way. If any of you don’t know where we live we don’t really get Spring we just get more Winter, usually through the end of May then we just jump into Summer and then move into Fall which just means Winter. But for the birds they are here and go with the flow.

This morning out our front door we had a large group of Red Winged Blackbirds,Starlings,Stellar Jays, Chickadees, Sparrows, Magpies, and a Woodpecker.Great start to the day, outside my front door birds chirping all around a wonderful tell tell sign of Spring…I mean Winter round 2.

Early afternoon we headed down the pass and took a quick stop at Prospect Lake we both got to add a new bird to our life list,a Red Breasted Mersanger. There were lots of Gulls and Geese and a few different kinds of ducks.

Then off to Fountain Creek Regional Park all the ice was off all the ponds, Turtles were out sunning and birds were all around. No Heron sighting today, very sad. But lots of Geese and Mallards, American Coots and Mersangers, Green Winged Teals,Belted Kingfishers, Nuthatches, a Woodpecker, Northern Shovelers and Finches and Chickadees.

Great day for a walk, great day to get outside and enjoy the warmth and the sunshine.Great day to go birding. Til next time get out there and do some Tactical Birding
